PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, previously known as PT Semen Gresik (Persero) Tbk, is a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) which engaged in the building materials industry. The company acts as a Strategic Holding Company with various business lines offering complete solutions in development.
Inagurated on August 7, 1957 by the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno, the Company became pillar of Indonesia’s development in the early days of independence to this present day. In 1991, the Company became the first SOE company to Go Public on Surabaya Stock Exchange and Jakarta Stock Exchange (now the Indonesia Stock Exchange), with SMGR issuer code.
On the development, the Company took a strategic step by acquiring two other state-owned enterprises, PT Semen Padang (Persero) and PT Semen Tonasa (Persero), and became the largest cement company in Indonesia. Along with the company’s vision, in 2012 the Company carried out a corporate step by acquiring Thang Long Cement Company (TLCC) Vietnam. On an effort to strengthen its position, in January 7, 2013 the Company transformed into PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk.
In the cement industry, the Company’s production capacity continues to experience growth. At the present, the Company has 14 Integrated Cement Plants spread in Indarung (West Sumatra), Tuban (East Java), Pangkep (South Sulawesi), Rembang (Central Java) and Quang Ninh (Vietnam) with a total installed capacity of 31.8 million Tons of cement per year.
The Company’s competitive advantages are also supported by various distribution and marketing facilities, including 3 Grinding Plants, 26 Packing Plants, 11 special ports, 17 buffer warehouses, 651 distributors throughout the country, and 78 distributors spread across Vietnam. In Indonesia, the Company has 3 brands that have been embedded in the hearts of consumers, namely Semen Padang, Semen Gresik and Semen Tonasa. Domestic market share of 39% which reflects the strength of the Company’s image and reputation.
The Company managed to administer financial fundamentals which remained strong despite the increasing dynamics of the competition over the years. The success of the management of financial fundamentals is able to provide wider opportunities for the Company to expand production capacity and business expansion. This can be proven in the profit growth that every year experiences profits.
